 A TRIBUTE published in the pages of the weekly paper THE HEAVENS & THE EARTH GREENSBORO, GA 30642 FEB 5  2022 JOEY PHILLIP JONES Owner of production company Crawfordville, Ga. – Joey Phillip Jones, 49, 4231 W. Hwy. 278, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Regional Hospital in Athens.     The funeral will be held today at 5 PM on his estate, N. Fork Ogeechee, in Taliaferro County, with Mitchell Kimbrough officiating. As Mr. Jones has been quoted as saying, years before his death: “At dusk, the air will be filled with my ashes; and, with a bit of luck, they will scatter to the four winds.”     Joey Phillip Jones was the owner of JPJ Film & Video Productions. Mr. Jones spent most of his life writing books and producing films. He was well respected and was the recipient of many distinguishing awards. He received the Nobel Prize for Peace (2008). He won 12 Academy Awards, including: Best Picture for his film Sha-Boom!, and Best Director and Screenwrite...

The Emporium

Three hours till dusk. I wandered without purpose through the open-air marketplace. Shops on my left and more shops on my right—some with pull-down awnings, others with display tables out front (bearing wares) that would have to be gathered-in before nightfall. I picked over items on tables and entered shops at random, not wanting to appear out of place. But I was bored.     I paused at an inconspicuous little storefront with a shed roof. Something about the place held me, transfixed. And feeling like I was turning my back forever on marketplace behind me, I took one last look around—the market seemed to go on forever in both directions—and then I took the plunge. After this I'm going see if I can find my way out of this place. This is going to be my last stop, I assured myself—and it turned out to be true.
